Your brick story

I haven't felt like celebrating the holidays since someone I loved died. This year my friends aren't letting me get away with hybernating through the holidays. They are taking me out to buy a tree and decorations tonight. I still don't feel like it.

Can you talk about the person who died. In the last two years two very good friends died - it is so very very hard. And loss is one of the hardest emotions to live with - cos there is literally nothing that can fill that space

I used to be one of "those" women. Christmas trees in every room of the house. Gift baskets for postman, workers at my favorite shops, people who do my yardwork. Homemade cookies and candies for my co-workers. Handmade gifts for family and friends. And the parties... It started with a birthday bash for my partner (Nov 28th) and then tree decorating, our anniversary, Solstice, Christmas, New Years Eve (which was also my mentor's birthday!) and finally, a Three Kings Day party for taking down the tree. And now just thinking about it makes me exhausted. There have been so many losses (Mentor, my relationship, etc.) that I don't want to cope with it.

I think you are new around here? I have seen some of the other bricks and your comments. I can understand how this time of year is tough for you. I avoid it for other reasons - for some reason, my father found Christmas and all supposedly joyous occasions too much - so we really did not do much celebrating. Just take it slowly maybe?

i know the feeling. my family and i are not much into the holidays.. we'd rather ignore them unfortunatly i dont live near my family and roommates and their parents are christmas freaks!! they had the tree up and all decorations 2 days after thanksgiving and i went out of town to escape it all. i promised id be back for christmas because they were pissed that i wasnt there for thanksgivnig and i did. i was forced to do "family bonding" type things. it was ok.. still not my thing.. id would have rather gone out and had dinner & drinks with friends then cooped up in the house where i wasnt allowed to go hide and have my secluded holiday to myself.
