Your brick story

Course... I knew this was gonna happen.
I knew I would see how quickly I could heal.
I knew I would want it again.
I knew the cravings would get stronger.
But I still, really don't want to do it anymore.

    Hi Seh,

What do you do when you feel the craving begin, and build? What is your plan for these times?

    Thinking of you, ((hugs))

My plan is to distract myself... remind myself why I'm stopping... and just pray a lot. =\

As long as it works it is a good plan - but is there part of the plan that helps you express your inner pain? What is it that you do to release that? I chop furiously into my bushes and prune like a maniacal gardener - but I have never been able to find anything other than really physical labouring that helps - writing and talking doesn't seem to let the pain out - just take the edge of it. I am thinking of taking up boxing training so I can whack things. take care love UM xx

Writing has to be, or painting, stuff like that-- I wish I could be so physical, UM - I think it would do me a world of good.

I keep thinking about an idea I saw here, if I ever feel that urge so strongly again, of marking my skin with a bright red marker, a permanent marker so it won't wash off too quickly. It worked for her...I thought, it is an option to keep in mind. I think we can't have enough options, tools in our toolboxes when we need...If you can scream - go for it (maybe let people be warned you might.) Or bash nails into an off-cut of wood? Or play some angry rock music and sing along, or drum along (being musical has nothing to do with it.) That might just be the only good reason such 'music' is good for.

Physical activity, like running around, with a ball, kicking it throwing it, bouncing it...you could wind up being totally exhausted - but by then, the urge (hopefully) will be forgotten.

I have my doubts that there is a permanent way to stop having these urges - just we need lots of ways to deal with them when they arise.

Gripping ice cubes worked for me when it was really bad. I would hold them until I couldn't stand it any longer, or until they completely melted... I remember one night I went through 16 ice cubes. Now, though, I usually just write.
