Your brick story

Why is it that people have kids and then treat them poorly and cruelly? What is it that turns people into monsters when it comes to kids and why is it that it is unseen by society that kids just have to cope with it and there is no help/

I'm sad about the number of young people on the Wall who don't seem to get a fair go from the people who brought them into the world. I'm not a pollyanna I just don't understand having kids and then working so hard to make them miserable. It's just crap.

I don't have the answer for that, although I often wonder about it myself. I've dealt with a lot of that in therapy ... knowing that if I grew up in another family, ex. Dawn's family ... my life would be absolutely different. I believe though, that each of us can become healthy and thriving individuals. I don't know ... just my two cents ...

Yeah, the perennial unanswered question. If they tried to answer it they'd have to look at themselves, huh? & these people are the only ones who can answer it.

I used to wonder why my step-mother, how she could put so much effort into well, destroying what little there was of me (she didn't see anything in me, so I'm not sure what she was AIMing at) You see what I mean? It seemed so pointless, an exhausting exercise in futility - I never understood. I have realized I never will.

There's so much in Society's Too Hard basket, it is overwhelming. Our culture has created many (if not all) it's own barriers to being better towards it's children. Most obviously to me is how Domestic issues, Domestic violence, all that is Domestic, going on within four walls, in residential dwellings is treated differently, like no matter how awful it it, it is still considered more precious and delicate than anything else - it seems to have a special status, like the church, there is the 'sanctity' of the home. No one wants to go in, Get involved - "No one can tell me what to do in my own home"! No one wants to dispute that least they find their own territory violated.

Is that a little rant or what? Now, if only I could find a voice to say it aloud!

I heard it pretty clearly benj. Yes and I wonder why we don't have more systemic approaches to avoiding it and responding to it rather than pretending it doesn't exist?

You know, I think parents EXPECT to be good, but things just go wrong for them. I don't think mom really knows, deep down, that she's a bad mom.

I don't think there's an answer to it. There's no way to stop it, at least, not yet. All we can do is hold each other up and be stronger people despite our pasts.

Yep I think you are right ROMH - it has kept me going for a while now knowing that I don't have to turn out like my mum - I have a different awareness and I am my own person. cheers UM xx
