So, my husband has this friend, lets call him, Bob. Bob is depressed. Bob has go into the habit of buying lots of sleeping tablets then calling my husband and telling him that he has this complusion to take them all. My husband goes running off, removes the sleeping tablets from him and spends a couple of hours talking to him. If Bob can't get hold of my husband, he calls another friend who does much the same. This has happened now 5-6 times, with 3 of these incidents involving my husband. Clearly, Bob does not want to kill himself - he wants someone to talk to and knows that buying the sleeping tablets will get someone there to talk to as a matter of urgency. But it's so selfish, instrusive and attention seeking! But how else can my husband help him? He can't ignore him when he says he's going to OD, can he? Or is my husband just reinforcing negative behaviour by running to Bob's rescue? Also, by the way, if anyone needs any nytol, I have about 6 packs!
