Sadness

Sadness sings its own song, of broken days and lonely hours

That sits heavily in our hearts.

Sadness brings its own wrong, of token greys and wilted flowers

Flat bits; mistaken of false starts.

I breathe the sadness in the air and it makes my eyes give water

Makes my chest a drum.

I feel the badness everywhere and it makes my cries to falter

Makes my breast go numb.

But then I see a tiny bird, rising above the weather

Life in flight and going up –

Like a fleeting friend referred, gifting a lonely feather

Love is Might; not slowing up.

And the light of those who love me is bright and clear and whole

I need to look more at that light

Deep and warm and close above me, and shining like my soul

And brightens all my night.
