  Well yes you may try to sell everything and run for the hills as you say, but I think there's more than just the Poll Tax & Co you've written about behind that desire to leave all that.
  Is there anything deeper or more personnal that's pushing you that way ?

  Personnally I've come to realise that it's best for me to understand what's going on in my mind before making any move.

  I think the the Poll Tax is pretty much everywhere in the UK :( dunno about in Scotland, though!

  I can empathise with your desire to run to the hills..
  The pressures of social living these days can be a real strain , but as younger has suggested the desire to run all too often goes much deeper than just everyday life.
  I know for me personally during my darker days a simple task like going to the supermarket can be quite intimidating and feel like the hell of all chores, and can completely engulf me and send me into a panic..
  Do you think maybe your desire to leave the rat race is your need for inner peace followed by outer peace, or visa versa?
  There will always be bills to pay in some way or other , and the outlandish behaviour of our society can create concern , but to gain a feeling of peace within yourself can create safety and contentment within your environment.
  Your brick is a very imperial image and a peaceful one at that .. lovely xx
