  For years I have been using an almost identical one .' Do not let facts get in the way of a good prejudice, they spoil it'. Proud to say I came up with that one myself in the work I do. Colleagues now quote it. Like you it is from personal experience.

  
  I would love to quote dozens of examples that prove it's truth. But that could take this in an unwelcome direction. As it is it speaks for itself.

  I have that quote put up somewhere in my brain to never forget it and also to not waste my time and energy when I have unwilling persons before me.
