Your brick story

When thinking about a Bird for Harmony I was lost in multi-coloured parrots, bright and wonderful - and then I thought of one of my favourite birds, the Starling - so common they are; that folk tend not to see them - I saw my first Starling at a very low point in my life, sitting on guttering outside my window, the sun shining on its wonderful, wonderful, many-hued feathers - I was so caught in its beauty that for a while I forgot my own sorrows - and when I asked the man what bird it was, he said it was only a Starling.

Only! Starling - a wonderful name for a magnificent creature - and I saw that he didn't see what rich and beautiful plumage it wore - he didn't see the bird that I saw at all.

And so I think that, for me, Harmony is a Starling.

Yes that's a lovely picture and nice words too. We used to have lots of starlings here. I can remember seeing thousands of them swirling in the wind one September 10 or 15 years ago. No more, sadly - Wheelie Bins have seen them off. My first stop on my R-t-W trip was Rome. I arrived at the central station one January evening where millions of Starlings were coming in to roost in the trees scattered around the adjacent bus station. What a sight - I just stood watching in amazement. But they were broadcasting starling distress calls in a vain attempt to scare them off.

Hi Jomo thanks you for the beautiful starling abd the words.

Where I lived a a child the local council used to protect the tops of buldings with wire because the thousands of starlings that used to perch there were ruining the buildings No one for a minute condisered then to be beautiful, just pests.

But beautiful they are with their deep rich colours.

    Cheers

Roze - don't do it - you'd lose all your wonderful bricks!

I think my most favorite colours are iridescent colous mostly seen in feathers - they so catch the eye and have caught my imagination. See 'em in bubbles and oil slicks (still fascinate me wharever I see them from when I was a child. Even get to see colours like them when I am looking through my polarized dark glasses, from within a taxi or bus through their windows, on the roas, in the sky, reflecting off surfaces...I never heard about it before so wonder do other people who are wearing polarized glasses also see these colours or is is something weird about my eyes?
