I eat emotionally and compulsively and it makes me feel worse.
I am also not very good at cooking and really beat myself up everytime I serve up my efforts!
It really frustrates me and I do not look forward to shopping for food or meal times.

Oh anon, you sound so sad. I am an emotional eater too - some people stop eating when they are down -but me I make up for a couple of those guys.

About the cooking - that I can do. And when I read your post it clicked in my head that if I am spending my time cooking I don't eat all the way through the preparation so you have reminded me to put cooking into the basket of things to do when I am low.

What sort of food is your favourite? I have lots of recipies and I could check out mine if I have your favourite and then we could have a virtual cooking lesson - could that be part of a plan to help you move forward?

    Take care UM x

Hello anon, how you doing? I too do all the above and I find that I succeed best when I keep it simple. Go for an easy meal with fresh ingredients that really tastes yummy. Really good omlette with a lettuce, beetroot, asparagus and mushroom salad..... it tastes really good and when I eat rubbish food, I think about what I am missing!

You have hit on a thing here - we need a food appreciation group. We control it, not it controls us.

Hi UM. That sounds like a nice idea! Its strange I do have some recipe books but as I have little confidence and always seem to be in a rush, I lose motivation to try! Maybe I need to aim to try one recipe a week or something.

I need a support group to go on a diet! I appreciate food too much already!

Well anon - why don't you suggest a dish you would like to try and I am happy to give it a go and see if we can come up with something. But yes try one dish a week and keep cooking it weekly until you feel confident with it. - and keep it easy - doesn't have to be boring food - just not lots of steps.

The rush element is real though - I do most of my cooking on Sunday and put meals away for the week. I do the cooking these days - so I have about 5 weekly menus that rotate during a season. Makes it easy for shopping and takes out the pain of trying to think at the end of a day at work.

    Best of luck
    UM
