forgive my dramatic answer, but it must be extremely hard for someone who can't have children to read about the Fred and Rosemary Wests, or even the less sensationalist though no less heartbreaking stories of heroin addicted babies being born in prisons and raised in social service creches while mummy serves her time on a drug dependency unit.

Or just to see the parents in supermarkets belting their kids, or read stories about neglect. It makes it seem very unfair. I don't advocate the hitler approach but I do know exactly what is meant by the poster.

All i read in this message is pain about not being able to be a parent combined with having to watch piss poor parenting situations - of which there are many. Yet I do not feel that there is much support for parents these days - like universal free nursery places? Or free holiday play schemes that are really well organised and fun.

i feel this brick (almost upside the head). my cousin is one of those women who thinks she's a baby factory. she hasn't had a job in four years but three kids later is still living off the state. those babies are in such a state of neglect, but nothing can be done. yet there are people i know and love who would give their left lung for a child of their own, by any means. i seriously think there needs to be some kind of parent aptitude test or a 'free trial' of sorts with a robot. i don't know. i hate people.
