Your brick story

What are we here for? I don't really see the point of humanity. I keep wondering if this might just be a big joke played on us.

It is all one big joke. We are born, we struggle all our lives and then we are gone. Tell me that is not a joke.
And it seems the harder we struggle to be a "good" person - the more rewards the other side gets. Why do we try so hard to set a good example for our children? Based on politics, TV and music, we should be setting a BAD example - that is how they will survive and get ahead once we are gone.

Yeah I think I can't see the point - it feels like a joke to have people oiling the machines for others to reap the benefits. As for our kids - as hopeless I feel I still want to give them hope - I don't think they will survive the world much better than we have. You got kids? UM

Yes - three daughters. Two are off at college and one is still in HS. They are fantastic people and citizens of the world. I am so very proud of them - however everyday I see great folks getting pushed down by the top 10% that runs the world. Our children have examples like rap singers, movie stars and politicians that are rich and famous - or ther old dad that has struggled their entire lives. Honesty and fair play - certainly don't PAY!

Yeah got to agree there is a very just sense to the balance of power in the world. Mind you I reckon most kids are bright enough to work out the difference between the hard work by ordinary people and the lack of reality of the lives of those they see on tv. They might not want to have the life of hard work but from what I see of young kids they seem to understand. Now what I really don't like is the gap between the rich and poor - at last when I left school the top dogs weren't paid 350 times what people were paid at the bottom. I just think this is demoralising. You sound like a great dad.

I try very hard, but here lately I feel very inadequate when I realize I can’t afford they type of education my girls deserve or provide them decent “trappings” of youth.

Love is like this isn't it? You love your kids so much and want the best for them - but maybe you do give them the best - your best. As long as your girls are resilient and know what they want for themselves they will be okay - it just won't happen quickly or easily - but they might be better people as a result. When you are feeling like you can't do enough, maybe it is part of knowing that your role of being the provider for them is coming to a close as they are approaching independent adulthood. :)
Be nice to yourself and why not have a chat with them the next time they are all together - you might be worrying yourself about things that they have already sorted out.
