Your brick story

most nights i wake every two or three hours with my head whirling full of thoughts - some troubling, some inspiring. even my dreams are vivid and complex. sometimes it would be good to feel more peaceful.

I can recommend nothing more highly than 30 minutes on a sleep timer of the World Service - being a waker-upper myself. It doesn't help me go to sleep, but at least I am sometimes learning someing as I lie there.

That and a pad by the bed for the really good thoughts....

Eurghh - I suffer from this also sometimes, except I struggle to get to sleep - someone once told me that if you cant sleep you should never just lie there, you should get up and have a drink and break the thought cycle... but isn't it weird how you sort of get paralysed in your bed... for hours??

i feel approaches to insomnia are very individual. one of my friends just lies there for hours worrying. another listens to talking books. sometimes i get up and write creatively. sometimes i work - also quite creatively. the early hours appear to be quite an expressive time for me. lying there and doing nothing is the worst definitely. that and drinking too much tea - so you have to get up and pee even when you do go back to sleep!

Have a Nytol followed by a bowl of cereal. Infallible. But you WILL have to clean your teeth again!

I know how you feel Roze and it sucks terribly. I don't sleep at all most nights (maybe 2 nights a week I'll sleep and then up the other 5) and would give anything to get my mind to stop even if it's just for alittle while.

hi roze. i know the feeling all too well. its not just sleep my thoughts interupt either...i cant read without my mind wondering onto a billion other things, or sit and peaefully watch tv, or, well, anything really. i was advised to flick through a dictionary and read random words to get my thoughts out of my mind when im struggling to get to sleep. hope u find this useful. x

I have always dreamed very visually - and tend to remember quite a lot of my dreams. There are some dreams that repeat or have very similar themes...
