I have now finished my exams and need to wait for results. Before that i am going to leave in a week or so for Europe with my girlfriend and some other friends who have decided to join us. I have always loved holidays. My parents were both really good, independently, at taking me on adventures and so i have grown a real love of travel. I just prefer not to have too much fixed in advance and like the ability to go with the flow. So my summer plans really suit me. We leave on a train to Paris and have NO fixed destinations or plans after that. We may all go in different directions. Anyone else have any plans or attitudes to holidays taht they wan tto share?

I love them. Pre-planned. Booked months ahead. Beach. Nice hotel. No cooking. I am the original package holiday person. No thinking is just such a relief in my life.

Sounds great connector. My kind of travelling. Kylie, i only ever went on one package holiday as it cost nothing to get to a lovely Greek Island that way - never saw the rest of the group - but had a great time discovering hidden bays with my lover at the time - driving a bike all over the place (started with push cycles and became motorised real quick).

Holidays - not sure if i am allowed one this year!

Holidays should be the rule rather than the exception.

I work with people who never take holidays and it shows.  There is a culture of always working never having down time and being too important to even think about taking leave.  I sometimes think they are scared that the company won't go down the drain without them there.  It is a very macho workplace.

I love holidays but can't bear to lose too many days travelling.  I seem to use so much of my leave to help with childcare in my extended family, that I might have a two week break by myself.  I am planning to go to one of the cooking schools where you live in and spend the time cooking absolutely wonderful food with complete strangers and eating it together.

Holidays? Can't come soon enough really! Really hoping to switch off - if only for a few days of them this year, last year involved no downtime whatsoever.  My holiday of choice? All sorts - summer is a beach, activity, golf, mini adventures, nice food, good wine and children.  Winter is skiing, activity, walking, nice food, good wine and children.  Always think I would like to lie around doing nothing and reading a book - each time I do, i last about ten mins.... Roll on August.  Wx

School holidays are a bit of a pain in the bottom.  What to do with the children for weeks on end other than arrange playdates and summer activities. It serves only to keep an entire, highly cyclical industry in operation!

When I was working holidays were my lifeline.  I really loved my job but it was highly charged and having a holiday  to look forward to was great through the busiest and most hectic times.   Now that I am retired I thought I wouldn't need planned holidays so much but guess what, we just plan even more holidays than we used to!

I love the school holidays too as we get to spend more time with our grandchildren.  No doubt by September I will be exhausted and glad that school is starting but for now the summer stretches ahead and I can't wait.

I don't do proper holidays - can't bear the thought.

I hate travelling - the wobbling about on a  train or a bus hurts my neck

I hate the suitcase/ bag carrying. 3 minutes of it and my back hurts

I hate sleeping in a strange bed with a strange pillow - can't sleep

I don't do airport s- too many people

Not had  a valid passport since 1982.

Last time I was  out of the country was 1974.

I don't like being in the sun

I've done  bits of UK bus rides and so forth - unbearable, generally.

if I won a luxury holiday I'd just give it away.
