They say that a drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts ... and I wonder if there is any truth to this?

I've been quite tipsy a few times and know that I can still absolutely lie during these times, which makes me wonder if other's do too? I mean, it's not that I sit there and intentionally lie, rather I am still able to withold information. I don't find myself "all out there" when I'm tipsy, just more open than I normally am - more fun - more outgoing.

So I wonder what everyone thinks ... because of course I went out the other night with a few new friends and there were things said that I wish to be true, but am unsure if I should believe someone who was tipsy or "drunk" last night ... And what about actions? Do you think that what people do when they are drunk is intentional? I don't mean abuse ... but rather nice gestures - Do you think they are genuine?

Hey Inspire - I wrote this on your brick but personally, I think people tend to simply exaggerate emotions when they are drunk. So if nice things were said then I think they are also felt, but perhaps not as passionatly as they were said after a tankful.

Want to explain a bit more about why you are asking? Are you confused about something someone said to you when they were drunk? OR just curious?

    Hope all is well

    Zxx

Hey inspire, Sounds as if you are wanting something said 'under the influence' to be true? I am not very good at dishonesty when drinking or not - but after a few drinks i generally find my honest emotions find a stronger voice (i will skip over the odd exceptions when catatonic may be a more appropriate word than tipsy). Of course, there is embellishment but i think it takes a very calculating person indeed to lie when drunk. Do you feel like sharing some more and what lies beneath the question? Big hugs from an unusually sober roze

    Hi Inspire,

I think I have to agree with the sentiment. Alcohol removes inhibitions and on occasion will cause, enable or alllow us to say some very hurtful things, I confess I've done it and I've been on the receiving end too.

I think the really unfortunate aspect is that, if we were to have the courage to say when sober, what we tend to slur out when drunk, then we could perhaps say it without so much venom and it might be far less damaging to relationships.

    Take more water with it....:-)

Hi inspire,  have not heard the saying but wish I had heard the warning years ago. In my experience it is very true - but only when I have been blotto drunk, not tipsy. It grieves me to recall the occasions when I would go one of two ways, really aggressive or crying the night away. I am somewhat more careful now. Losing my very tightly controlled reserve did on one very memorable occasion cause me to say something that I have regretted ever since - even though it was true.

Yet another post that has struck a real chord with me. Just how do you all get the time to reply to all you want to? I would like to say so much more on this some time. Yet another reason to give up my job.

For now however I must say au revoir
