So, 8 weeks till the big day! I've been thinking about the changes that will happen after I am married and the one thing I am struggling to get my head round is that I will be changing my name. I want to take his name dont get me wrong, but it does seem very strange. Am wondering what other people think about this - do you think its old fashioned to change your name? Those that have - was it weird, how long did it take to get used to it?

I've had the same surname for 30 years, my nickname is based on my surname, will I lose some of my identity when I change it? AM I having a last minute panic about something silly?? answers on a postcard please!!

    Zxx

Hi Zorro, when I got married I changed my name. I never had any doubts that I would change it, It was a symbolic act on my part to show that I was moving into a new phase of my life, that I was creating a new family.

After 20+ years of having the name I have no plans on ever giving it up. It doesn't hurt that my full name is pretty. It looks nice and it sounds beautiful.

My name changed when I got married; from 'Darling' to 'Oi you'.

Zorro, if that's your biggest worry about getting married you are a very lucky girl.

    All the very best.

ha ha s1, I love it!!!

I decided that I would not change my name when I got married - I have a perfectly normal, easy to spell surname with four letters in it, my husband is Spanish and has a surname of 10 letters and it is definitely not easy to spell.  He doesn't mind as it is fairly customary not to change names in Spain.

I feel sorry for my children though as we have saddled them with both names!  Poor things!

I guess what I am saying is you do what is right for you and your relationship.  I hope that your intended has a nice surname and that you will proudly be Mrs ******.

    Good luck!

Oh I think a postcard could be a short answer - yes  what challenge.

I didn't change my name 13 years ago - I think my husband would have been quite surprised if I had.  and s1 I must have lucked out because I seemed to have a few phases and they started off with my love, to mumjugs (feeding babies time) to darling and at times "wifey" which is a small amount of teasing.

Go with your heart Zorro - UM xx

You will always be "Zorro" to me!

But seriously folks...when I decided to change my name, I took quite a while to decide what names I would choose. Since you have decdied, Zorro, go to step #2, which is to wriete, say it, orver and over again. How will it look as your signature? Will you change your signature style? Practise that. Get your friends used to it too. Some of the people I know have found it difficult to accept my choice of first name - I suspect people you know will embrace your name, and you, whole heartedly. Very quickly your new name will be as natural as answering to "Zorro" is!

    & congratulations!
