Do you drink? What? and why?

Me, I am a red wine girl - to the extent that I have vowed not to really touch a drop of anything else. Definitely nothing 'hard' and after one glass of champagne I am gasping for a drop of the red stuff.

And why? Hmmm, tricky - to relax at the end of the day? Not sure why I can't relax without a glass of wine, but it is absolutely a daily occurrence. What does that say about me?

Hi Wolfie,  I'm a red wine gal myself.  Cabernet Sauvignon is my absolute favorite, but recently I discovered Chardonnay, which I know is white, but heck, why not.  I'm a terrible drinker though.  I must be in the mood or some people call me a social drinker, I guess I am.  But at Sunday lunch, it's a must.  I always have a stash somewhere... I don't think you have to feel guilty or that it makes you anything for drinking one glass a day.  If anything, it's very good for you!!  Filled with anti-oxidants.  One day I'd love to have my own cellar with tables and all as part of my home, or even live the life in the movie "A very good year"!!

Hmmn wine isn't my best friend - seems to give me a dreadful hangover. (I am red over white and champagne seems to give me an instant headache)   Don't mind the occassional beer when it is hot but am very daggy and drink cider in preference.  The best drink in the world is Stoli - straight from the freezer ( I think that ice contributes to hangovers so always drink it neat).  Of course if I am drinking with mates then I can spend a happy night with gin and tonic (Blue Sapphire) even if I am on the phone with a dear friend of mine who lives in another country as we reminisce about working in Malaysia.   Had a very interesting night on Maotai once in a city in the central west of  PRC and don't think the hangover hit for two days.  Definitely rocket fuel.  Why? I can't post a list that long.

I'm trying to think what I don't like. No I don't think there is anything that qualifies. I do  have a rule - drink with food and in moderation. Would I let alchohol drive my car or my thoughts and actions?  Don't think so.  I do wish I had this much control over eating. Chubbly and growing, Cate

I'm not much of a drinker but when I do drink, it's only at home and only on the weekends (and not every weekend).  As far as what I drink, I only drink Budweiser in the bottle.

Why do I drink (I think that was part of the question)?  I drink to take my mind to a different place then where it usually is.

I am not much of a drinker - maybe once or twice a month. Mostly I'm a gin drinker (Hendrick's).

    I also like liqueurs.

Can't drink red wine because it causes migraines.

Why do I drink? Because I like the flavor.

I don't drink... anything... but then again, I am only 16.

I despise alcohol with a passion... and yet... drinkers are who I usually end up around.

I don't judge people for habits, or non-habits... but I do wish alcohol would drop off the face of the earth.  Along with every other mood altering substance.  =\

Oh dear - may have to be quite a long post from me. WHat? Where to begin? UM and i are soul sisters on the hard stuff - if it is vodka it is Stoli and if gin Blue Sapphire - both in the fridge door positioned between my kid's apple juice and milk - neither of which i can stand. However, mine comes with tonic and lemon and ice. Then i adore champagne and a good white burgundy as an aperitif too. My main drink like Wolfie is red wine - my preference a nice bordeaux or burgundy. Sometimes i like to finish my evening with a neat whisky. All have to be of really high quality or i would rather not drink at all.

Now last year i did not drink at all very much - most days i would not have a drink - why - because i needed to not have any rounded edges or do anything or say anything unless it came from a completely authentic place. I was so crazy a lot of the time that i really did not need or want anything to take me further into that place.

I can drink a lot - in fact the last few weeks i have been downing far too much. Why - a load of stuff going on and a return to a previous pattern of using alchohol to get through. This week i am back to moderation and even some alcohol free days. It is my preferred place - combined with doing a fair amount of exercise.

My father was alcoholic. I can see where alcohol leads. I have been a heavy drinker for much of my life but now i really believe i am (mostly) in a place where i am in control (just wish i could not hear a number of my friends laughing in the background). I know that i can live without it but some days i just love that slow sip of a premier cru red at the end of the day and other days i love partying and that de facto requires a constantly full glass in my hand.

    Was that convincing?

Good Oh! I just thought I will start another talkabout, re: smoking.

Now, about alcohol. I used to drink. I liked cherry brandy, and strawberryt brandy, and  re chocolates, I also liked cherry liquer chocolates sometimes.

I used to drink in the hopes of one day drinking so much I would pass out. Never suceeded. Even half a bottle in a few hours didn't do it. I wished that I like something stronger....

But now, because it's not a terribly good idea to drink alcohol while using antidepressant medications, I don't. The leaflets and the Psychiatrist says I could have a little, with care, because of how the body might respond to both... but I think if I had some, I'd be tempted to have more, and more.... & that's a probelm, ritht? So I made a firm decision about alcohol. NO alcohol for me.

Funny I don't think I could have the smae resolve about salt or cheese.

Most real ales or a cold, cold Budweiser on a hot day.

As for the hard stuff, Southern Comfort or a nice single malt; both undiluted.

    Why?  Because I like it.
