Age a feeling or an attitude

Last weekend, a woman known to be the World's oldest blogger died at 10 years in a nursinghome north of Sydney.  She had only been in the nursing home for 1 week before she passed away of a chest infection.

Here is Sydney at least the last few years on her birthday she has celebrated a public birthday with the news services covering her family gatherings.  Olive led a fairly public life deciding to engage in creating a blog of her life.

Summer's claim to be an "old man" has worried me - especially as he doesn't sound old - well neither does Olive.  So it leave me with the question of the importance of attitude to aging.  Olive had a tough working class life - and she was a tough character.  Known to have "flattened" a couple of people in her life - including her husband's mistress when finding out they had an affair (she and Olive had been best friends).  Olive was a single mum of three kids in the 30's and worked as a bar maid until her early 70's when she retired.

I admit to being sad that Olive has passed away - I quite enjoyed her blogs and yarns - so in case you are interested here is the link to the You Tube site

I admit I really have a strong soft spot for the elderly and worry about the way at least here in Australia they seem to be the unseen people in our community.  This part at least is all about attitude!  a bad one at that.

I suspect that aging is a mixture of both feeling and attitude but I wonder if I could ever sustain such a positive attitude for so long.  What about you?  Forward with boldness!  UM xx

    Boldly forwarding I come!

My Grandma was never old, into her 90's, she had the best and most wicked sense of humour and common sense, she was so open and alive, and so awesome in her acuity - her body aged, and finally died, gave her up - but she died laughing and complaining in the same breath, as we always said she would -

I feel old.  I feel worn out - at much younger than her.  My sister who is 14 years older than me is not as old as I am.

I am an old duck, now, and having reached old duck-hood people treat me differently - quite markedly so.

So - a combination of attitude and bodily sense - my Gran had bad health, and suffered from all sorts, but she was never old, in the sense that I feel.

Jomo, you don't sound old either, my dear! :) Strong and vibrant, warm and humourous...:) (oh smile again why don't I?)

I sometimes feel very old - in my body. In my head, I don't think I've got past being a young teenager. Skipped the older teenage years and went back to being younger when I wondered if I really had grown up yet. Sound confusing - so it is. It would be good to have a second childhood now, because I think, if my body can't keep up and do what I need without so much complaining, I'd rather not live to be old. Really, it's okay with me if I don't.

Interesting question this.  Until a couple of years ago I never thought about age and certainly didn't consider myself old despite what it says on my birth certificate.  I had an active life, a breat job that I loved and lots of plans for the future.  Within a period of three months my husband had a health scare than came out of the blue, changes at work brought an early and painful end to my job and suddenly I began to feel very vulnerable and old.   This had a physical impact too and aches and pains I had just ignored previously loomed large.  Life is a little more positive at the moment, the health scare has receded and I am slowly getting used to being retired and, guess what, I don't feel quite so vulnerable and old, at least most days.    A long winded ramble around your question UM but I think I am trying to say that feelings and attitude and perhaps circumstances have a lot to with how you respond to age.

    Evening/Morning um' 'Guten Tag',

'Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now'. Mr Dylan has so many of the answers, and quite a few questions I am still working on.
