I've just noticed this brick here, about ageing, it's really pulled me up short. It was my birthday yesterday and I don't like getting older, I hate it, I have to have a birthday lunch iwth the family later today and I really really don't want to go, I feel like has completely passed me by and I'd rather stay at home and try and pull myself together.

Hi chocolate cake, and a belated happy birthday to you.  Enjoy your birthday as a wonderful excuse to be queen for the day - and don't think about the number.  Does it matter?  I always think that life expectancy has increased so much and yet our attitude to age hasn't changed.  40, or however old you are, just isn't the same as it used to be!

PS:  I will have to look for the brick about ageing as the link didn't work for me.... what a shame!

Yeah aging is not much fun, but I must say that the past couple of years I have felt better, and look better than I did ten years ago.  I finally decided to change my lifestyle, get in the gym, and stop feeling sorry for myself.  40's, 50's, 60's and 70 year olds are looking better, and are more active than ever before.  Christ when I was a kid, 40 was ancient.  Well I'm over 40 and I feel great.  There is hope!!!

One benefit to growing older is, I suppose, that I don't get patronised in work anymore - I was pretty senior at a very young age and it was difficult to get people to take me seriously. I never had to battle the Female Exec thing, but I did have to battle with staff who were a lot older than me resenting me being in charge. My gran suggested doing what she does and add a few years so when someone hears your (fake) age they'll go 'no way! You look years younger!' THe day they stop saying that is the day you know you add a few more years!!

I'd barely skipped into my my 30s when I got dumped for someone ten years younger, it was quite a shock.

Sometimes I fret about getting older too.  I'm almost 30, which is a big deal to me (and to a lot of women)

That said, sometimes I think it'll be grand to be a spunky old lady.  I'll buy a classic convertible and take my girlfriend on long road trips without a man.  We'll prove that you can be old & fun & still love life.

SPK, I do that now. We also do "no boy" weekends where we go out of town, rent a hotel room and do silly tourist-y things together.

My thoughts on getting older is that it is better than the alternative.
