I've just noticed that dealing with one's own bricks has become a whole lot more difficult.  Don't forget I'm a Mac man.

I think the problem may be connected with Firefox.  Tried to look at one of my bricks; first click on brick brought up the 'my bricks' page as usual; next click on same brick brought up the 'magnified bricks' page and third click finally took me to the brick as normal.

The problem did not occur with Safari; indeed it was a lot better because the first click took me straight to the brick.

You know about the logon difficulty.  Suffice to say that when I changed to Safari logon went fine.  And went fine again when I came back to Firefox.  BB

    Dear Brown Bear,

This is our new brick viewing system: click on a brick once and it will immediately zoom in so that you can see it, click on it again to go to the brick detail page with comments etc OR double click on it to zoom back out again.

It means that you should be able to zoom in and out of the bricks on The Wall quickly and easily. Give it a try and let us know if it doesn't work.

    Best wishes,

    Emily

    1. Something went wrong when I tried to attach my personal details to my profile. All looked OK but there is nothing in the box. 2. Something went wrong when I tried to send someone a brick. It wasn't supposed to go on the wall: the 'private' box was checked and it went to the wrong person.

Overall much improved but I see we still have to delete one message at a time, although the navigation around the messages is much better.

Will multiple deletes ever be possible?

As soon as I switched from Firefox to Safari the bricks worked fine. UM, perhaps a change of browser might be work. Team: what's bothering me now is that I cannot format the text or paste a link here in a TA. I'm sure we could do that before. The formatting bar has simply disappeared. BB PS. In an attempt to get paras, I've put 4 'Returns' between each here.

    Hey BB,

I am using Firefox but not a Mac.

Actually I have had few problems - and am quite amazed at how few there have been as I seemed to spend a fair bit of time on the Wall in the first few day.  I got knocked off a couple of times - logged out. A couple of times I couldn't get the link to the brick maker to work.  I am a believe in closing down and having another go - I think it basically makes me feel I am doing something useful and stops me getting cranky.  But generally a bit of time helps.

Hope you can get you Mac/Firefox combo sorted.

    Cheers

Until I find a browser that can cope with Text AND Bricks, I will be using Firefox for TAs and PMs and Safari for Bricks.  Since neither browser will do an 'About Me', the Team has kindly offered to put it in for me.

I post this so that others who encounter problems, know which things have yet to be ironed out.

    1.  When I tried to look at a TA with Safari before logging in, I was not shown the red 'Under 18' message.  It came up OK when I switched to Firefox.

    2.  I've also noticed that despite having logged on through Firefox, I have to log on again if I want to switch to Safari to see Bricks.

Does it have to be this difficult?

What has happened to the 'Making News' section?

I was looking for it this morning because I wanted to point someone at the wall we created for Bill, but it's gone.

Any chance it can be reinstated, I'm sure Bill will want to be able to go back there from time to time?

I think we've had a breakthrough.  This afternoon I found that I wasn't automatically logged out of my account as soon as I closed the window.  Indeed I went back some time later and found I still had access without logging on again.  If that's true Team, thank you - a great improvement.

Good grief - I have been meaning to say for a while that the logging out has really improved and mainly because I found a setting in my browser that expunged the site url when I closed the tab - I haven't been logged out for so long that I had forgotten about the fact it used to bug me - and worse forgot to say thank you.  Thanks Bear you tickled my conscience.  UM xx

Bear - Hi - I have changed to wireless modem because of no phone line - and I see you use a different browser - is that instead of Microsoft?  Is that better, Firefox, or the other one wot I have forgot, now I can't see it?

Can you save links as favourites on other browsers, and do you have to pay a lot of money to use them?  Is that the limit of questions I can ask in one week?  If I have one left, do you know who will win the Melbourne Cup in November - would really appreciate that one!

    Love

    Dear All

We are pleased that you find the new log out time of two hours helpful.

Also, the News Walls are now under Featured Walls on The Wall homepage when you click on View all featured walls. However, it appears that some of the previous Featured Walls such as the one for Bill's wife are not appearing. We hope to have that fixed as soon as possible. Thank you for drawing this to our attention Swon.

Please do keep your comments coming when you encounter problems. They really do help us ensure that Big White Wall operates as it should. Thank you.

    Best wishes

    Hello Jomo,

There are lots of different browsers and most of them are free.  Firefox has been created by the software engineers thast used to work for Netscape who have all gone to Mozilla:  they are determined that it should become the browser of choice.  It works on PCs and Macs and has lots of good features but is not perfect for me [it doesn't do Autofills and still has difficulty with our bricks].  Firefox has tabs which I like a lot - you can open any web page in a new tab and zip about from one to the other.  It also has a 'bookmarks bar' where you can keep your most used bookmarks and pick up the pages instantly you can even put several favourites in one bookmark [I have several Wall Pages all inside one bookmark].

I expect you use Microsoft's Internet Explorer.  I abandoned that when they announced that they had stopped supporting it because it was too insecure.  The other one I use is Safari but I think that's Mac specific.  It is very good with Autofills and bricks here and but hopeless with Text Boxes.

There are others, but try Firefox and see how you like it.  They have made further improvements recently but I'd have to upgrade my Mac [expensive] to get the latest version.

Come back if that's too technical.

Melbourne Cup?  What's that?  Aussie Beer Mug?

Hi Jomo - I use Firefox and occassionally I do give MS's Internet Explorer a whirl when I am working somewhere for a couple of days and don't want to go through getting Firefox downloaded - It is as different as walking on hot concrete in Cairns in bare feet and a pair of thongs.  Firefox is so user friendly and like Bear I love the set up of the Tabs - and for some reason the phishing tool seems to work quicker on Firefox than IE.

I'm no great shakes with pc gear but find it really very well organised and easy to follow.  I'm with Bear on this one,  UM xx

Ouch.  I can remember walking on the sand in Cairns with my sister - it was so hot, and we only had one pair of thongs between us [yeah, me, I had lost mine...] and so had one each, on one foot, hanging on to each other, and hopping and lolloping, hysterical with laughter, trying to get off the sand and into the shade...

Like a million years ago, it seems...

Hey folks, I've just discovered another way of getting back all that data you've typed in which then gets lost because you are timed out when you hit 'post'. I understand why it works, just don't know why we didn't think of it before.

So, you have a massive message ready to post, you hit post and get asked to login again and when you login you are back to an empty input screen and all you data is lost.

    Oh no it isn't,!

Hit the back arrow on your browser - this will take you back to the login screen, ignore that and hit the back arrow again - yippee ! you are now back to your previous input screen with the full message intact.

Hit post now and because you are signed back in on the system your post will work.

This test is based in Internet explorer 7 running on windows XP but I can't see why other browsers or operating systems would not behave in the same way.

Try it if you don't believe me.

Yes Swon,  This is the only way that I recover drafts - and I don't worry about writing them in another application- so I use Mozilla - I tried to explain this in thread 733 - but you have put it way more succintly.

Also for Mozilla users there is a disctionary/language pack that seems to trigger a spell check in brick comments - it is in the tools tab.  I haven't worked out why it doesn't work in the TA pane - but no success there yet.  Maybe Bear can help?

UM:  I get the same as you:  there is a spellchecker in a Brick box but not in a TA box.  I've also noticed that 'Home' and 'End' don't work in Bricks but they do in TAs.  I guess different tecchies created Bricks and TAs.  I've had a look at Opera:  I find it less intuitive than Firefox but I have yet to give it a full check-out.

They offered to put something in the 'About Me' box in my profile - I sent them a  piece but nothing's happened so far.

They have told me that if I want to put something in I must have a one-word handle: I've said I'll reluctantly accept 'Brown.Bear' but nothing's happened so far.

Overseas:  You are not likely to be timed out now - we get two hours instead of the old 20 minutes [Thank you again Team].  But I must add that these TA boxes are much more robust now - I have only once been caught out since the new release.  BB
