Site update: How can we make it better?

    Dear Wallers,

The Big White Wall Team will be doing a full review of functionality over the coming weeks so that we can agree, with our developers, where to next. So, what do you think? What is missing? What drives you mad? What would you like to see on Big White Wall?

Reply to this TA or send me a PM. I guarantee that every single idea we get will be fully considered and debated.

    Thank you.

    With best wishes,

    Emily

I only just got here and it is a nice site. The personal profile pages are a bit boring. And it would be fantastic if you were able to customise them!

Aside from what I have alread sent to you, I would like to change the font colour your text on the page presents in, it is a problem of contrast. The grey, and lighter grey (like after I have read a message) is very difficult, no matter what colour I make my background colour. Just bigger would be a help.

I would like to see more of the wall itself when I choose the see the wall. I'd like to have a better mental image of the size and scale of the thing, as if it was a real wall somewhere in the world. All that pannining up nad down and across and back - I hardly know where I am! Let alone where my bricks are in relation to the whole. Can we extend it out and fill up these side area on hte screen which are currently not used?

It seems to me there is plenty of space on the personal profile area, below where friends is, to include the biographical notes as we like. Is that possible?

You know I would like bigger avatars.

More tools to play with when making bricks.

In the How To, you need to assume whoever is reading it know NOTHING! That should be the place where to find out how to do the most simpletst thing to the most complex, to solving problems one might encounter when using that Beta sysem I know nothing about - but is apparently frustrating for users.

I realised I didn't locate the button to link bricks because it is so pale when not available. And because it is small, I did not see what it was when it was made available when I just wanted to underline something. (I don't usually like to underline because underlined and italiced words are hareder for me to readz). That  is partly why it took me so long to realise what I was meant to do.

What has also been frustrating is when I have typed a longer message and finaly finish, I press post reply and am asked to log in again, and do so and I was at first stumped by the blank message box - thinking I had lost what I had typed ' until eventually I discovered I could go back a couple times, see all my typed message again and then post it.! What can we do so that when you end up typing a linger message than you may have first anticipated, that automatic log out doesn't happen?

I better leave it there, or it will happen again!

One of my favourite activities is commenting on bricks. I would like a way to see the most recent ones as I do like browsing ones that have recently been posted - at the moment I change the number in the url but it's a bit 'vinegar and brown paper' as unionmaid would say.

    Some of these have already been mentioned I think but, in no particulatr order;

    1. When the login times out, any input should be stored, okay, once you know about it you can work around it but to a new user inputting possibly a very emotional post, it could be very off-putting to see it all disapperar.

    2. The length of time you remain logged in for should be configurable by the user, either as a fixed environment value in their profile or at login time.

    3. It should be possible for a user to edit or delete posts they have made without needing to ask the admin team to do it.

    4. It should be possible to select multiple items to delete when tidying PMs

    5. It should be possible to PM a group of people

    6. If large posts are created outside of the TA input screen and then copied and pasted in, the formatting should be retained. Currently fonts and format effectors are mostly ingnored or worse, corrupted.

    7. If viewing items you have sent, the 'back' icon should take you back to the Sent list, instead of which by default 'back' always goes to the inbox.

    Good List S1.

    1.  I hope and pray that there will be a MAJOR overhaul of these really irritating posting/text boxes.
    2.  It would be very useful to be able to sort or at least select the senders and receivers of PMs
    3.  I endorse the setting of the time-out feature.  I'm rarely, if ever, finished my entry before I have to log in again.  If I didn't bother with spelling, punctuation or grammar it would be OK.  But the quality of message that is expected here demands careful checking before posting.  It has driven me from doing PMs here, to Yahoo Messenger.
    4.  Creating a brick is made very tricky by the extreme difficulty of re-sizing a picture.
    5.  There needs to be some guide that suggests to newcomers that they come here to TAs to make themselves heard.  The mental connection between the word 'Wall' and 'Brick' is too strong.  I've noticed that some people have created dozens of poignant bricks that have remained virtually unanswered. Hi Muse,

I have decided to add a date tags to my bricks. e.g.:  Mar-08 or Apr-08. I am hopeful others will take up my idea. I have been mentioning it here and there.

I would very much like a status input box where I can tell people how I am feeling at the moment. Perhaps using pictures and words.

hIYA, Sorry if this has been mentioned but I would also like to be able to see the TA thread above the reply box when I 'reply' to a talkabout. Sometimes there are lots of points to respond to from different wallers so it would be nice to be able to just scroll through, rather than have to have two windows open

    Thanks!

Something I have been wanting DESPERATELY...
    A Favorite system.
I would like very much to be able to have a 'favorites' category, and be able to save bricks to my favorites.  It would be wonderful!

Also, I agree to the Making the Wall a bit.. more viewable?  I get lost so easily roaming up and down as such...

I would welcome any and all of the above suggestions.

AND one more I have thought, is it possible to have a check-box so we can either opt in or out of recieving notificaions telling us someone has replied to your TA/Brick. Sometime, when I open up my home emails inbox I will have several to many emails there, often two or three referring to the same TA or Brick, then I have to go through them, then alos go to my Wall notifcations and delete all those. That is tedious and annoying.I can recognise the TA's I am interested in, and note how someone posting there will cause it to climb to the top of the list.

I have determined I ought to regularly visit the public profiles of my fellow Wallys (both male and female, and any intersex or transexuals we have - all genericly named by me, 'Wally')That should keep me in touch with those, and even alert me to newer bricks as they appear.

Thanks for offering this place for us to give our opinions. Thank you too, for all the hard work you have already done.

I know that I bang on an on about community - but well here I go again...

I think we all understand that the Wall was established for a very good and honorable purpose - certainly it fills an important gap in my life.  But, in the same way many other internet based spaces try to do the same - the difference isn't just in the underlying pupose and vision but it is in the way that the Team and the people on the Wall work together that allows the best of community building to come together and achieve that purpose.

When was the last time that you were asked by other organisations, groups or internet based networks asked for input for changes which might be important for you?  It doesn't happen often in my life unless I am a financial member of something and have a voting stake in it.

And now we have the Emily and the team thanking us for input - how good is this Wall?  I love the Wall and what it brings to my life - real opportunities for expression that I am sure keep me in better shape.  But it is all the better for not just being a space run by an entreprenural company without a strong sense of spirit and love.

I love the work of the team - thank you

    Excellently put unionmaid =]
This is a wonderful place isn't it?

I have just one more thing I'd like to add to what I'd like to see on the wall...

I would like to have the option to possibly subscribe to someone's wall, so that I could see when they put up new bricks.

I like to keep in contact with certain people but I often find myself wrapped up in my own life, and by time I remember the Wall(though I visit almost daily) I have no time left to go check all of my friends' bricks =[  It would be much easier if i were able to get email notifications.  =]

    Much love,
    Seh
